Junior Test and Characterization Engineer
Job Type: Full Time

Job Description
The Junior Test and Characterization Engineer will work with the semiconductor lasers and PIC team to develop and execute test and characterization plans for photonic components. The test and characterization engineer will also take responsibility for building new test sets and updating and modifying existing test sets as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Interface with the technical team leaders to develop and perform tests for photonic devices
- Perform data collection, analysis and visualization for review with device scientists
- Mount/wire bond photonic devices in preparation for test and analysis
- Perform test set maintenance and calibration
- Construct new test sets, including cryogenic components and tooling
- Transfer new test protocols into production line use
- Generate and maintain test documentation
- Work with Excel, Power Point, Matlab/Python to analyze and present data and findings
Skills and Knowledge
- Basic understanding of electronics with working knowledge of resistors, capacitors, diodes
- Basic knowledge of cryogenics used for variable temperature testing
- Experience interfacing test instrumentation with computers using GPIB
- Experience coding in visual basic, C-sharp, Python or equivalent
- Experience working with simple circuits for test purposes
- Experience trouble shooting test equipment such as oscilloscopes, optical spectrum analyzers, SMU
- Experience with Excel, Matlab, Python or other data analysis software
- Willingness to take on technical challenges
- Patience to optimize test sets and refine quality of test data
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills to work in a dynamic team environment
- Hands-on experience with chip-level test setups a plus (optical alignment, pin probes, etc.)
- Technical writing skills is desired
Education/Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in physics, electrical engineering or computer science or other related fields
- 2+ years’ experience in industry is desired
- Other equivalent qualification will be considered
Pay and Benefits
At Freedom Photonics, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $78,600 and $110,000* per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will also be eligible to receive other benefits including: equity in the form of restricted stock unit awards, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement for formal education related to advancing your career at Freedom Photonics. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type.

Semiconductor Wafer Fabrication Process Engineer

Job Description
A Senior Process Engineer will be working as a key member of the device fabrication team for semiconductor lasers and photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for a variety of applications. Examples include both integrated active and passive photonic devices, in III-V and Si-based platforms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate hands-on in day-to-day semiconductor device fabrication working with fabrication engineers
- Design, develop and qualify compound semiconductor wafer fabrication processes
- Integrate various processes and develop wafer fabrication process flows for new product introductions
- Improve various wafer fab processes for manufacturability, design robustness, cycle time reduction, yield improvement, and cost saving
- Conduct process capability analysis, failure mode analysis, and SPC review for continuous design and process improvement
- Document process specifications, process work instructions and train production personnel when needed
- Work very closely with different functional teams for device design, product development and process development including backend dicing/polishing and chip assembly processes
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Advanced Degree in a STEM discipline, or equivalent experience
- Hands-on experience with wafer fab processes, such as photolithography, annealing, compound semiconductor wet etch and dry etch, thin film coating, metallization, dicing and polishing
- Knowledge and experience in semiconductor material and device characterization tools, such as SEM, AFM, FIB, TEM, element analysis such as EDX, Auger, XPS and SIMS is a plus
- InP and/or GaAs experience is a plus
- The ability to learn new processes and technologies quickly
- A self-motivated and self-directed individual
